Why You Can’t Skip Sunscreen

At a time when flawless skin covers Instagram and the pages of magazines, it’s important to know where it all starts: sunscreen. It’s no secret that any good make-up routine begins with a base of moisturizer and primer. But the third and most important part of the routine is is sunscreen.
Sunscreen is vital for protecting your skin against the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Full of radiation, these streams of sunlight can cause sun spots, premature aging (think wrinkles and fine lines), and even cancer if not regularly blocked.
When skin gets sunburned, it’s not the same as a burn from a hot pan or your curling iron, which develops from a high amount of heat. Instead, radiation burns damage skin cells, resulting in mutations in the cells’ DNA that can cause cancer.
To prevent this from happening, throw on a hat, seek shade outdoors, and apply sunscreen. When it comes to sunblock, aim for one that falls above 25 SPF and has at least 10% zinc oxide. Zinc Oxide is effective the minute it goes on your skin but other active ingredients may take up to 20 minutes to provide block.
If you want your skin healthy and slow down aging, plus to look as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside, try some of Spa in the City’s top-tier sunscreen products, available online and in-store.
