Dermal Filler Tips for Pre & Post Care
Dermal Filler Tips for Pre & Post Care
At Spa in the City, Josanne and Beth offer Restylane, Lyft, Defyne, Refyne, Juvéderm XC, Voluma, Radiesse and Sculptra treatments to our patients to address a wide range of cosmetic concerns. Together, these dermal fillers can be used to restore lost volume in the face, plump and volumize the lips, target wrinkles around the nose and mouth, and add contour to the cheeks and jawline, among other uses. Each product lasts for a varying amount of time, with some results even noticeable for over a year.
With minimally invasive treatments from Beth or Josanne at Spa in the City that have mild side effects and little to no downtime, you can get the results you want without disrupting your daily life. If you have scheduled an upcoming appointment to receive dermal filler treatments or have just received treatment, take these steps to ensure you receive optimal results.
Avoid Alcohol and Blood Thinners
Before and after your appointment, certain substances should be avoided to prevent complications. Avoid drinking any alcohol the night before as alcohol can dehydrate skin and thin blood. Similarly, avoid any blood thinning medication in the days leading up to your dermal filler appointment. Your blood’s ability to clot can be hindered by alcohol and blood thinners, increasing the risk of excessive bleeding and bruising at the injection sites. In order to speed up recovery and see results even quicker, make sure to avoid these substances immediately before and after your appointment.
Stay Hydrated
Though it may seem contradictory, drinking water will actually decrease swelling. Mild swelling is one of the few side effects of dermal injections and can prevent final results from being visible while the swelling takes time to subside. When our bodies become dehydrated, they begin to store extra water as a precaution. By drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated after your appointment, you can keep swelling down and get to your results that much sooner.
Take Arnica
Arnica is a homeopathic medicine derived from the natural Arnica Montana plant. Arnica is popularly used as a natural remedy to treat bruising and swelling, as well as offer pain relief. Since you will need to avoid using blood thinning medication after your appointment, consider using Arnica to address the common side effects of injection treatments. We recommend Arnica 24 hours prior to the appointment as well as 1-3 days after.
Plan for after Injections
While side effects from dermal injections are minor, you should schedule a little bit of time off from your daily workout routine as your body heals. Swelling and bruising at the injection points can be unsightly, but nothing that good concealer can’t help. Scheduling your appointment accordingly is always recommended so you can recover without having to take any time away from your busy schedule.
