The Rise of Clean Beauty Products

The Rise of Clean Beauty Products

The beauty industry landscape is shifting. The rise of all-natural, “clean” beauty products is undeniable.

Once relegated to a relatively small group of women, clean beauty products are becoming more mainstream. On-line sites such as CAPBeauty.com, LeVertBeauty.com and SpiritBeautyLounge.com are buoying availability, national retailers such as Target are carrying all-natural lines, and high profile healthy living doyennes such as Gwyneth Paltrow have developed their own lines.

So what is driving this growth?

Well, the news is sobering. Consider this:

  • Your body absorbs roughly 60 percent of what goes on it
  • In the United States there is no governing body inspecting chemicals and ingredients that go into personal care products to ensure they’re safe and won’t cause health issues.
  • In the United States, eleven harmful ingredients are banned from cosmetics. By contrast, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 toxic ingredients from use in personal care products and Canada prohibits over 500 ingredients from use.
  • No major law has been passed to regulate the beauty industry since the 1938 Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

The beauty market has recognized this chasm and is self-adjusting. People want non-toxic products and are starting to understand what’s in so many of the things we use and how detrimental they can be to our health.

So what can you do to educate yourself?

Movements have been made in the political arena to close these loopholes, and big cosmetic industry players are getting on board. But these things take time, and we at Spa In The City want to be sure that you have all the latest and best information so that you can remain safe and beautiful.

Come see us. We carry the wonderful plant-based Rhonda Allison line, which is right in line with this movement.
